Trapylen® 113 S is a chemically modified low-chlorinated polypropylene known for its exceptional affinity to polyolefinic plastics, including PP, PP/EPDM-blends, and, with certain limitations in adhesion strength, PE. Notably, it possesses a higher molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution compared to other modified chlorinated types. Due to its reduced content of maleic anhydride, this product exhibits good compatibility properties with other binder resins. Trapylen® 113 S finds versatile applications, serving either as a straight primer or as an adhesion promoter for base coats and pigmented primers. Its primary use is in paintings and coatings for molded parts, including sealing profiles in the automotive industry, such as bumpers, side panels, and door seals.

Solubility and Dissolving Process
  • Place 1 part of TRAYPLEN® 113 S and 2 parts of solvent into a dissolver and stir the resin to dissolve it by friction. The temperature of the system should be raised to 60 °C and held there for at least 3 hours. After finishing the dissolving process adjust the solids content to e.g. 20 % and filter the solution.
  • Using TRAPYLEN® 113 S as a primer dissolve the resin in xylene to 5 % solids. This primer can be applied by spraying, dipping, brushing or printing.
Product Application
  • Using TRAPYLEN® 113 S as a primer dissolve the resin in xylene to 5 % solids. This primer can be applied by spraying, dipping, brushing or printing. Drying conditions: 30 s at 80 °C, residual quantity of resin about 3 - 4 g/m².
  • When using TRAPYLEN® 113 S as adhesion promoter in base coats/pigmented primers, the compatibility of the system must be checked. The resulting base coat can be applied by spraying, dipping, brushing or printing if the system allows it. Drying conditions: Usually 30 min at 80 °C, residual quantity about 15 g/m².
Product Uses
  • TRAPYLEN®113 S is used either as a straight primer or as an adhesion promoter for base coats and pigmented primers.
  • TRAPYLEN®113 S principal use is in paintings/coatings for molded parts and sealing profiles in the automotive industry, such as bumpers, side panels and door seals.
  • TRAPYLEN®113 S can also be used in adhesives and flocking agents for door seals.
  • TRAPYLEN®113 S is used in industrial applications where PP based plastics are chemically pretreated.
