Trapylen® 187 S is a chlorinated polypropylene characterized by a higher chlorine content compared to other Trapylen® grades. This feature results in good compatibility with other resins and polymers, coupled with excellent pigment wetting. The cured film exhibits high gloss and very good chemical and aging resistance. The primary advantage of Trapylen® 187 S lies in its outstanding adhesion to untreated polypropylene, PP/EPDM thermoplastic rubber, and, with limitations, polyethylene. However, its resistance against fatty oil and grease is limited and may be compensated for by using it with low-chlorinated Trapylen® grades.

Functions: Adhesion Promoter, Binder & Resin, Coupling Agent

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP)

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Natural Rubbers (NR), Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR)

Product Highlights
  • TRAPYLEN® 187 S has a higher chlorine content compared to other TRAYPLEN® grades which results in a good compatibility with other resins and polymers and ex-
  • cellent pigment wetting. The cured film has a high gloss and very good chemical and aging resistance.
  • The main merit of TRAPYLEN® 187 S is the outstanding adhesion on untreated polypropylene, PP/EPDM thermoplastic rubber and - with limitations - on polyethylene. The resistance against fatty oil and grease is limited and must be compensated by using it with low chlorinated TRAPYLEN® grades.
  • It is only recommended as a binder resin for screen printing inks and as an adhesion promoter in plastic paints and solvent based contact adhesives on NR/SBR/polychloroprene basis.

Applications

The addition of TRAPYLEN® 187 S to the main system must be checked by tests, so that the application depends on the screen printing system.

Solubility and Dissolving Process
  • Place TRAYPLEN® 187 S and solvent into a dissolver and stir the resin to dissolve it by friction. The temperature of the system should be raised to 60°C and held there for at least 3 hours. After finishing the dissolving process adjust the solids content to the desired concentration and filter the solution.
